Some insight on me and what I drink.  Basically four things, coffee, tea, water and Bacardi and diet soda.   Not a terrible list of drinks, each of them had some benefits or at least I thought.

Coffee – Black with Splenda, usually espresso beans in a Cafe’ American size cup

What I thought:

  • Coffee is the second most popular drink in the world, trailing only water and maybe tea.
  • Contains Caffeine – I’m good with that!
  • Full of AntOxidants
  • a diuretic but offset by the water in the coffee.
  • Zero Calorie Drink with one Splenda artificial sweetener

Tea- Green with Honey, usually decaffeinated

What I thought:

  • Green Tea – the Chinese might be onto something, they live a long time.
  • Honey – It never go’s bad and is all natural.  No Sugar and no artificial sweeteners.
  • Decaffeinated – I drink this after dinner and try to stop drinking caffeine after lunch

Water – Just plain exactly like I eat my meatballs

What I thought:

  • Stay Hydrated
  • Plentiful Supply – I live on top of the Kirkwood-Cohansey Aquifer in the heart of the Pinelands.  There is  the 17-trillion gallons in there.

Bacardi and Diet Soda – wrote soda because I didn’t want to pick on Coke or Pepsi

What I thought:

  • The only alcohol drink I ever drink, well not really but I have been drinking it since I was 21.
  • About 65 calories a drink 65 for the ounce of Rum and 0 for the diet soda with artificial sweetener

What I found out today

Diet soda and artificial sweeteners can increase your chances of stroke or dementia.   A study published in the American Heart Association journal Stroke found a daily diet soda puts a person at three times the risk of dementia and stroke compared to someone who drinks less than one a week.  YIKES!

So now what.  I think I might be able to give up Splenda in my coffee but should I do about the Rum and Diet.  Rum and Water? YUCK!,  Rum and Juice I DON’T THINK SO!,

I may be destined for dementia and a stroke.
